Resting on the eastern bank of the Luangwa River, in the heart of the beautiful Luangwa Valley, Luambe National Park is one of Zambia’s smallest and most remote natural reserves. It is also one of the oldest protected areas in the country. This biodiverse wildlife sanctuary features some extraordinarily scenic landscapes characterised by floodplain acacia scrub, forested riverbanks, tall cathedral mopane woodlands, and the open grasslands of the Chipuka plains scattered with sub-Saharan sausage trees. This tranquil, off-the-beaten-track park offers guided birding tours giving visitors the opportunity for rare bird sightings. Commonly spotted wildlife species include hippo, herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra, impala, puku, kudu, waterbuck, bushbuck, giraffe, lion, hyena, wild dog, leopard and a remarkable variety of bird species.
